Home cup match

Christchurch FC Panthers welcomed Poole Town FC Wessex U16 to Upton Recreational Ground on 18 January 2026 for a Wessex Cup home fixture, kicking off promptly at 12:00pm. The Panthers emerged emphatically victorious, securing a 4-1 win after 80 minutes of competitive football under the watchful eye of referee Paul Moore in front of 33 spectators.

Christchurch FC Panthers lined up in a 3-4-1-2 formation, deploying three defenders at the back with a midfield four ahead, an attacking midfielder just behind two forwards. Jack Orchard guarded the goal, supported by a defensive trio of Theo Roberts on the right, Finley Everett centrally, and Aaron Scullion on the left. The midfield quartet consisted of Emilio Parandian on the right flank, James Adams and Dominik Chudy centrally, and Jamie Moore on the left. Josh Akpagbula operated as the attacking midfielder, linking play between midfield and attack, while Daniel Goodson and Henri Day spearheaded the forward line on the right and left respectively. The substitutes named were Arwan Hassan, George Adlem, Thomas Hunt, Kian Sinclair, and Rafael Maggiora.

The Panthers started brightly, with Jamie Moore proving a constant threat down the left wing. His early influence was rewarded in the 14th minute when he delivered a precise cross that found Henri Day, who calmly tapped in to give Christchurch the lead. Just five minutes later, Moore was again the architect, whipping in another cross that Emilio Parandian met with a simple tap-in, doubling the home side’s advantage.

Poole Town responded with a goal of their own in the 25th minute, capitalising on a well-worked team move that breached the Panthers’ defence. However, Christchurch quickly reasserted control. In the 33rd minute, Josh Akpagbula played a short pass to Henri Day inside the box, allowing the left forward to slot home his second of the match and restore a two-goal cushion.

Remarkably, half-time closed with Henri Day turning provider, delivering a short indirect free kick that found Josh Akpagbula. The attacking midfielder made no mistake, converting the set piece to extend Christchurch’s lead to 4-1.

Throughout the match, the Panthers’ 3-4-1-2 formation allowed them to dominate possession and create numerous chances, with the wing midfielders and attacking midfielder playing pivotal roles in linking defence and attack. Henri Day’s clinical finishing and creative interplay with Jamie Moore and Josh Akpagbula proved decisive, earning Day the player of the match accolade.

Christchurch FC Panthers’ comprehensive 4-1 triumph over Poole Town FC Wessex U16 at Upton Recreational Ground was a testament to their tactical discipline, attacking prowess, and squad depth, setting them up well for the next round of the cup competition.
