The match ended in a 6-2 defeat for Castlecourt after a challenging 70 minutes of football plus added time. The referee for the day was Mr Magoo, overseeing an 11-a-side contest played in a 3-4-3 formation.

Castlecourt set up with a back three comprising Ben Standrell at right defender, Kayden Burns centrally, and Logan Dickinson on the left. The midfield four featured Bray Ryles-Evans on the right, Alfie Davies and Khail Davis centrally, and Mason Bullen on the left, tasked with both defensive duties and supporting the attack. Up front, the trio consisted of Harry Richardson on the right forward, Leo Douras leading as striker, and Conlan Doyle-Wall on the left forward. Joe Watson guarded the goal. The substitutes named were Adam Bodell and Archie Ridgeway.

The game began with Castlecourt looking to impose their 3-4-3 shape, aiming to control midfield through Davies and Davis while relying on the wide midfielders and forwards to create chances. However, the first significant event came in the 24th minute when Bray Ryles-Evans was replaced by Adam Bodell in a tactical substitution, signalling an early adjustment from Castlecourt’s management.

Just seven minutes later, the match turned dramatically against Castlecourt. Marina Sands Wolves scored a remarkable hat-trick of goals all within the 31st minute. The first was a fluke goal scored with the right foot from close range, catching the defence off guard. Almost immediately, a defensive mistake allowed the Wolves to double their lead with another close-range finish using the right foot. Early in the second half, Castlecourt sought to find their rhythm. Conlan Doyle-Wall had an attempt wide in the 39th minute, showing intent to get back into the game. As the match progressed, Harry Richardson tested the opposition goalkeeper with a saved effort in the 47th minute, followed by another saved attempt from Alfie Davies in the 51st minute, indicating Castlecourt’s growing attacking threat.

However, the Wolves extended their lead once again in the 52nd minute, restoring a three-goal cushion. Castlecourt did not relent and found a second goal in the 62nd minute when substitute Archie Ridgeway struck from outside the box with a right-footed shot, cleverly set up by a short pass from Alfie Davies. This goal demonstrated Castlecourt’s resilience and ability to create chances from midfield.

The match saw further substitutions as Logan Dickinson returned to the field in the 67th minute, replacing Archie Ridgeway who had earlier come on due to injury. Just two minutes later, Archie Ridgeway was reintroduced, this time coming on for Adam Bodell, showing the fluidity of Castlecourt’s squad management in response to injuries and tactical needs.

In the closing stages, the Wolves sealed their victory with a lobbed goal from outside the box in the 70th minute, scored with the right foot, which proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Castlecourt’s hopes of a comeback.
