One of those nights where in the days before the game it has been such a ball-ache to get the game on that before kick of you wonder if a) the club is going to fold and b) whether it is worth the hassle.
BGC turned up with 3 and aided by 6-Fosters ringers we got a 9v9 game on.
The game was surprisingly fun and entertaining. Lots of chances, maybe because of the 2 men less per side. Charlie really should have scored a hat-trick in the first 5 minutes, but didn't get any surprisingly. When he finally did the score - cutting back and nicely finishing into the far corner - the oppo had called offside. Charlie and Tony didn't think it was off, so we might have been robbed there.
The ragtag oppo made us pay for our profligacy in front of goal, ringer Andrea breaking the offside trap and lobbing Tyson. 0-1 and it got worse when they scored again for 0-2 at the break. We were losing but we really should have been in front. The oppo goalkeeper was having one of those nights where he saved everything we threw at him.
Second half, long ball through from Andy, deflected by the oppo defender into Tony's path and Tony finally beat the oppo goalkeeper. Cross from Alex and George did too, for 2-2 and it looked like we had salvaged a draw at least.
Unfortunately, with pretty much the last kick of the game a loose ball took a bad deflection, bobbled through and BGC Tom grabbed the winner.
And to make matters worse, a slightly bad tempered set of mini rows between 2 BoC players boiled over into a bit of handbags, name calling, shoving and loose talk. Living up to our (real) name there.
Good game though, in spite of the 9v9 and the struggle to get the game on.
Ringer A - Ollie. Surely just a pub appearance away from breaking into the squad proper.
MoTM - oppo goalkeeper, shades of Donnarumma. One save with his foot, when Tony had "sat him down" was just out of this world.
