On 10 December 2025, Blue Eagles Football Club hosted Kamuzu Barracks FC at Nankhaka Stadium in a league home match kicking off at 2:30pm. The Blue Eagles emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline after 90 minutes plus added time, much to the delight of the 400-strong crowd in attendance.

Blue Eagles lined up in a 4-1-2-3 formation, deploying Precious Masamba in goal. The defensive line consisted of Trouble Banda at right back, Bennet Konyo and Yankho Kambalu as central defenders, and Maxwell Gustavo on the left. Gilbert Chirwa operated as the lone holding midfielder, shielding the back four. Ahead of him, John Banda took up the right attacking midfield role while Webster Nzunda occupied the left attacking midfield position. The front three featured Pius Saka on the right wing, Tonic Viyuyi as the central striker, and Laurent Banda on the left forward flank. The substitutes named were Andrew Mapemba, Micium Mhone, Maxwell Mbewe, Matias Nyirenda, and Blessings Malemia.

The match began with Blue Eagles asserting early dominance. In the 7th minute, Laurent Banda delivered a precise short pass to Webster Nzunda, who calmly tapped in with his left foot to open the scoring. This early goal set the tone for the home side, who looked to control possession and exploit the flanks.

As the game progressed, the midfield pivot of Gilbert Chirwa began to influence proceedings more prominently. His long pass found Tonic Viyuyi in space outside the box in the 27th minute. Viyuyi unleashed a powerful right-footed strike from distance that flew past the goalkeeper, doubling Blue Eagles’ advantage with a spectacular long-range goal.

Blue Eagles continued to press and just before the interval, in the 45th minute, Pius Saka combined well with Laurent Banda on the left. Saka’s short pass found Banda close to goal, who finished confidently with his right foot to make it 3-0. This goal was a fitting reward for the home side’s attacking intent in the first half.

The half-time whistle blew with Blue Eagles firmly in control and a commanding three-goal lead. Kamuzu Barracks, meanwhile, had yet to make a significant impact on the game.

The second half saw Kamuzu Barracks attempt to mount a comeback but their efforts were hampered by a red card in the 74th minute for unsporting behaviour, reducing them to ten men. This dismissal further tilted the balance in favour of Blue Eagles.

In response, Blue Eagles made tactical substitutions at the 81st minute, bringing on Andrew Mapemba for Tonic Viyuyi and Micium Mhone for Webster Nzunda. These changes aimed to refresh the attacking impetus and maintain control. Later, in the 87th minute, Maxwell Mbewe replaced Pius Saka due to injury, prompting a reshuffle on the right wing.

Despite being a man down, Kamuzu Barracks managed to pull a goal back in stoppage time at the 93rd minute through a penalty, converted with a right-footed strike from outside the box. However, this consolation was insufficient to alter the outcome.

Blue Eagles made further tactical substitutions just after the final whistle at 95 minutes, with Matias Nyirenda replacing John Banda and Blessings Malemia coming on for Laurent Banda, allowing the team to see out the remaining moments comfortably.

Tonic Viyuyi’s influential performance, highlighted by his stunning long-range goal and overall presence as the central striker, earned him the player of the match accolade. The Blue Eagles’ disciplined 4-1-2-3 setup, combined with effective use of width and midfield control, proved decisive in securing a well-deserved 3-1 victory over Kamuzu Barracks at Nankhaka Stadium.
