Woodland Reserves 3 – 1 Long Riston 3rds

Woodies reserves faced a tough task this week against unbeaten Long Riston 3rds who also had not conceded a league goal in their previous outings.

Woodies started slowly with the energetic visitors taking control of the first 10 minutes. Woodies then started to find their feet with Stephenson and Rothery coming into the game, but it was the visitors that struck first after good play from the Riston forward who pounced in the box to give them the lead.

Woodies rallied and replied from the awesome Stu Clark who converted Bucknall’s corner to level up the score at 1-1.

Personal battles on the pitch in every area followed of which woodies started to get on top.

After great pressure from Stephenson leaving the Visitors Goal keeper stranded, Rothery then gave woodies the lead with a cool finish from outside of the area into the empty goal.

Half Time 2-1

The second half started much better for woodies with Stannard now realising after the half time team talk that woodies were playing in red, Bucknall and Nicholls getting tighter in midfield and gained control. Barker and Wheldrake looked a constant threat with the ball at their feet and any attack from the opposition saw it dealt with by the back four of Gormely, Mitchel, Clark and Stannard.

Bucknall and Nicholls then decided to have a lovers tiff in the middle of the park which was hilarious for the strong reserves following, however you can’t fault the passion boys like to see it! Lomax replaced Rothery and it was Lomax who then provided the cross for Stephenson to make it 3-1 after a fine through ball from Bucknall.

Bucknall and Nicholls then made up following bucknall’s pass resulting in Nichollls chasing him round the pitch trying to kiss him.

With 5 minutes remaining the visitors then hit the bar with a speculative effort only for it to then be safely gathered by the ever dependable Hewson.

Wooidies saw out the final 5 mins with ease to see them go top of the league for the first time this season.

MOM went to Stu Clark for a fine performance at the back. Special mention must go to Gormley who showed his versatility, class and commitment to the team by playing at right back at the eleventh hour.

This week Reserves take on Gilberdyke Phoenix another unbeaten side at Kent Road players to meet 1pm sharp at Kent Road.
