AFC Titans confirmed a 3rd place spot in Divison 2A with a convincing win away at Clayton Village S&S Res.

The 3G plastic pitch proved no problem as The Titans dominated from the off. An innocuous foul on the edge of the box gifted The Home side with a direct free kick after only 8 minutes. Up stepped The Clayton striker to curl a fluky shot over stand in keeper Bob Smith to put The Reds 1 up against the run of play.

This was probably the only time the Home side ventured anywhere near The Titans goal for the majority of the half as The Visitors took control.

25 Minutes and the mounting pressure from AFC Titans finally paid off after a neat cross ball to the far post found the head of Top Goals scorer Mick Dougan who duly found the back of the net to bring the score level.

More pressure on The Home side’s goal had Captain Anthony Preston jinx his way through a stagnant Village defense only to be up ended in the area.

Mick Dougan buried the spot kick on the stroke of half time to go into the break 2-1 up.

HT:1-2

More of the same as the 2nd half got under way, Titans dominating from the off.

Some solid defensive work from Bam Bam Thornton and Ben Meehan along with Danny Wells kept The Home side at Bay.

Mark Lajca & Danny price worked well down the flanks as The Titans pressured to put the game out of reach.

Danny Price came close with mean header from one of many corners as the half progressed. Not to be out done Gareth Dorber & Danny wells also came close as The Blues search for a third.

10 Minutes into the half Anthony Preston picked up a pass on the edge of the opponents box after some good supportive work by Mick Dougan , and rifled a shot into the top corner and the game out of reach for Clayton.

As the game came to a close pressure again from Anthony Preston proved fruitful as he nicked the ball off the defender to slot home his 2nd and Titans 4th.

3 valuable points as The Titans moved into 3rd place in Division 2A.
