NAFL 3A result:
Immaculata 2nds 0 vs 0 Abbey Villa 2nds
Abbey Villa 2nds faced the current 3A champions, Immaculata 2nds at Grosvenor Rec Centre 3G yesterday.
1st half:
As the game got underway, Villa's young side went toe to toe with the current top reserve team in the amateur league. The home side obviously showed their quality on the ball. But Villa were solid in defence throughout, enforced by a solid midfield display also. With Villa's Ross Murray rarely called into action. The "Mac" were limited to very little, in a way of goal threat this half. It was Villa, with a couple of chances, who looked the more dangerous in front of goal, with the best chance falling to forward Daniel "Messi" McFarland who unfortunately put his header from a corner over the bar from a couple of yards out, just before the break. Half time 0:0
2nd half:
Villa came out after the break knowing that another 45mins like the first half, and we have every chance of claiming our 1st win this season? The home side continued to look dangerous. But again Villa stuffed out all threats, with a stellar display from skipper Jake Rainey, CB Matty Edwards and both full backs Curtis Williamson & Casey Courtney. Another stand out performer was young Daniel Beach in midfield, who unfortunately was forced off with an injury after 54 mins. He was replaced though by the excellent young Jimbo King, who at 16 years old is one of the top talents at the club.?? With the game closing toward the final 10 mins or so, it was Villa who looked the more likely to claim all 3 points. With multiple great openings created, and chances spurned. Just as last weeks game unfolded though, we missed the opportunity to win the game late on. But on reflection, we will take a draw up there any day. 2 points & 2 clean sheets. (Time to start firing in front of goal now.) ??
Full time 0:0
MOTM: Jake Rainey
The skipper returned yesterday after trying to get himself fit and available for last weeks opener, but unfortunately wasn't fully ready. He has had an up and down pre-season build up with niggly injuries etc to deal with.
But yesterday he came back in and raring to go! He produced an excellent performance at the back with his CB partner Matty Edwards. Both looked unbreakable yesterday. But Jake led from the back and had a great return.????
