About Women Regional League

Women Regional League

The Women Regional League is a series of amateur football leagues for women in England. There are eight regional leagues, each of which is divided into several divisions. The leagues are the fifth and sixth tiers of the English women's football pyramid.

History

The Women Regional League was founded in 1989, with the merger of the Greater Manchester and Merseyside League, the North West Women's League, and the Three Counties League. On formation, it had 42 teams, spread over four divisions.

Structure

The Women Regional League is divided into eight regional leagues:

  • North East Women's Regional Football League
  • East Midlands Women's Regional Football League
  • West Midlands Women's Regional Football League
  • Eastern Women's Regional Football League
  • London and South East Women's Regional Football League
  • South West Women's Regional Football League
  • North West Women's Regional Football League

Each regional league is divided into several divisions. The number of divisions varies from league to league, but there are typically three or four divisions per league.

Promotion and relegation

The top teams in each division of the Women Regional League are promoted to the FA Women's National League Division One North or South. The bottom teams in each division are relegated to the lower regional leagues.
