The Wolverhampton Sunday League is an amateur football league in Wolverhampton, England. It was founded in 1922 and currently has over 100 clubs competing in five divisions.

The league is affiliated to the Staffordshire County FA and the FA. It is a cup-tied league, which means that clubs cannot compete in both the Wolverhampton Sunday League and the Wolverhampton Saturday League.

History

The Wolverhampton Sunday League was founded in 1922 by a group of football enthusiasts. The first season of the league consisted of just six clubs, but it has since grown to become one of the largest amateur football leagues in the country.

The league has been home to some famous players over the years, including former Wolverhampton Wanderers players Kenny Hibbitt and Steve Bull.

Divisions

The Wolverhampton Sunday League currently has five divisions:

  • Division Three
  • Division Four
  • Division Five

The top two teams in Division One are promoted to the West Midlands Regional League, while the bottom two teams are relegated to Division Two.

The Hawkins Sports Sunday Charity Cup is the most prestigious cup competition in the league. It is contested by all clubs in the top four divisions.
