The Blackburn Sunday Football League was founded in 1908 by a group of local footballers who wanted to play the game on Sundays. The league originally had just four teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has over 100 teams.

The league has been home to some famous footballers over the years, including Alan Shearer, Gary Lineker, and Michael Owen. Shearer played for his local team, Blackburn Rovers Reserves, in the league in the early 1980s. Lineker and Owen both played for their school teams in the league.
