The Sportsman League is an amateur football league in London, England. It was founded in 1949 and currently has over 100 clubs participating in its various divisions.

History

The Sportsman League was founded in 1949 by a group of football enthusiasts who wanted to create a competitive and organized league for amateur players. The league initially had just two divisions, but it has since grown to include over 100 clubs and 1,000 players.

The Sportsman League is affiliated with the Football Association and its clubs are eligible to compete in the FA Sunday Cup. The league has also produced a number of professional footballers, including former England internationals Paul Konchesky and David James.

Structure

The Sportsman League is divided into three divisions: the Premier Division, Division One, and Division Two. The Premier Division is the top division and is contested by the best clubs in the league. Division One is the second tier, while Division Two is the third tier.

The league season runs from September to May and each team plays each other once. The top two teams in the Premier Division are promoted to Division One, while the bottom two teams in Division One are relegated to Division Two.

Cup competitions

In addition to the league, the Sportsman League also organizes a number of cup competitions. The most prestigious cup competition is the Sportsman League Cup, which is contested by all clubs in the league. The Sportsman League also organizes a Challenge Cup, a Veterans Cup, and a Sunday Vase.
