South Devon Football League

The South Devon Football League (SDFL) is an amateur football league based in South Devon, England. It is a feeder league to the Devon Football League, which sits at Step 11 of the English football league system.

The SDFL was founded in 1923 and currently has 59 member clubs, divided into five divisions: Premier Division, Division One, Division Two, Division Three, and Division Four.

History

The SDFL was founded in 1923 by a group of football enthusiasts from South Devon. The league started with just six teams, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has 59 member clubs.

The SDFL has been a feeder league to the Devon Football League since its inception. The top two teams from the Premier Division are promoted to the Devon Football League at the end of each season, while the bottom two teams from the Devon Football League are relegated to the SDFL.

Current season

The current season of the SDFL is the 2022-23 season. The Premier Division is currently being led by Beesands Rovers, with Newton Abbot 66 in second place. The bottom two teams in the Premier Division are Watcombe Wanderers and Waldon Athletic.

Cup competitions

The SDFL also runs a number of cup competitions, including the Herald Cup, the Fred Hewings Cup, and the Divisional Cups. The Herald Cup is the top cup competition in the league and is open to all member clubs. The Fred Hewings Cup is a cup competition for reserve teams, while the Divisional Cups are cup competitions for teams in each division.
