The Skelmersdale League was founded in 1907 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The inaugural season saw 10 clubs compete, and the first champions were Skelmersdale United. The league has grown steadily over the years, and currently has 20 clubs competing in three divisions.

The Skelmersdale League has produced a number of professional footballers, including Steve Heighway, who played for Liverpool and won the European Cup three times.

Current Season

The current season of the Skelmersdale League is the 2022-23 season. The top division is currently being led by Burscough United, who are followed by Skelmersdale United and Ormskirk Town. The bottom two clubs in each division will be relegated at the end of the season.
