Introduction

The Pro League is the highest amateur football league in the Netherlands. It is a nationwide league with 18 clubs. The league was founded in 2010 as the Topklasse, and was renamed to the Pro League in 2016.

The Pro League is divided into two groups of 9 teams. The top two teams from each group qualify for the promotion playoffs, while the bottom two teams from each group are relegated to the Tweede Divisie.

Current season

The current season of the Pro League is the 2022-2023 season. The defending champions are VV Katwijk.

History

The Pro League was founded in 2010 as the Topklasse. It was created as an intermediate level between the amateur and professional leagues. The first season of the Topklasse was contested by 16 teams.

In 2016, the Tweede Divisie was (re)introduced between the Topklasse and Eerste Divisie. This was done to further work on stimulating promotion and relegation between the amateur and professional leagues.

The Topklasse was renamed to the Pro League in 2016. The name change was made to reflect the fact that the league was now the highest amateur league in the Netherlands.
