The Down Area Winter Football League (DAWFL) is an amateur football league in County Down, Northern Ireland. It was founded in 1979 and currently has over 50 clubs affiliated to it. The league runs a winter season from October to March, with teams competing in a variety of divisions.

History

The DAWFL was founded in 1979 by a group of football enthusiasts in the Downpatrick area. The league started with just 10 clubs, but it has grown steadily over the years and now has over 50 clubs affiliated to it. The DAWFL is a popular league with players of all ages and abilities. It is a great way to get involved in football and to meet new people.

The DAWFL has produced a number of talented players over the years, including former Northern Ireland internationals Keith Gillespie and Steven Davis. The league also has a strong reputation for developing young players. Many DAWFL players have gone on to play for professional clubs in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Structure

The DAWFL is divided into a number of divisions, depending on the level of competition. The top division is the Premier Division, followed by the First Division, Second Division, and Third Division. There are also a number of junior divisions for younger players.

The league season runs from October to March. Each team plays each other team in their division twice, once at home and once away. The top teams in each division qualify for the playoffs, which are played in April. The winners of the playoffs are crowned champions of their division.
