The Chesterfield and District Sunday Football League was founded in 1921 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The league initially had just two divisions, but it has since expanded to include over 100 clubs competing in its various divisions.

The league has been home to some of the most successful Sunday league teams in the country, including Chesterfield Town Sunday, who won the FA Sunday Cup in 1996.
