The Young Stars travelled to White Location on 30 May 2026 for a 12:00pm kick-off in a vital league away fixture against the Future Stars. In front of a modest crowd of 400, the Young Stars emerged victorious with a narrow 3-2 win after a pulsating 90 minutes of football.
Deploying a 4-1-4-1 formation, the Young Stars lined up with Jerome Boukers in goal, protected by a back four of Kyle at right back, Zop and Arzi as central defenders, and Seuna on the left. Junior Juks took the solitary defensive midfield role, shielding the defence and linking play. Ahead of him, the midfield quartet featured Kiembie on the right wing, Rushine Davids and Lizzy occupying central attacking midfield positions, and Yanga on the left flank. Leading the line was Maydie as the lone striker, tasked with finishing chances and holding up play. The substitutes bench included Richard, Xavior Stukkies, Ivandre Haaland, Algin Kleynhans, and Boettie.
The match began with the Young Stars eager to impose their style, but early on Maydie was caught offside in the 7th minute due to a mistimed run, a correct decision that halted a promising attack. At 14 minutes, Maydie tested the goalkeeper with a shot that went wide, signalling his intent to find the net. The breakthrough came shortly after when Kiembie delivered a precise slide rule pass in the 22nd minute, setting up Rushine Davids who calmly slotted home with his right foot inside the box to give the visitors the lead.
Defensively, Zop was alert at the 27th minute, intercepting a dangerous pass to prevent a clear chance for the Future Stars. However, Maydie again fell foul of the offside trap in the 29th minute, this time due to poor concentration, confirming the opposition’s defensive vigilance. Seuna’s timely tackle at the 40th minute further frustrated the home side’s attempts to equalise, denying them a clear opportunity.
The Young Stars doubled their advantage just before half time when Seuna provided an assist from the left side, allowing Kiembie to score inside the box in the 42nd minute. The first half concluded with the visitors holding a comfortable 2-0 lead.
The second half began with a swift response as Maydie finally found the net in the 46th minute, following a slick team move and a flicked assist from Kiembie, finishing close range with his right foot. Unfortunately, Maydie’s afternoon was cut short due to injury in the 52nd minute, prompting the introduction of Richard.
The match’s intensity rose as the Future Stars received a yellow card for a bad tackle in the 55th minute. The visitors’ lead was halved in the 63rd minute when the home side scored from a close-range set piece, heading the ball past Boukers. This goal coincided with tactical substitutions from the Young Stars, bringing on Xavior Stukkies for Yanga and Ivandre Haaland for Seuna, signalling a shift in approach.
Shortly after, the Future Stars were shown a second yellow card for deliberate handball in the 64th minute, reducing their attacking threat. Boukers made a crucial save at the 71st minute, diving at the feet of an onrushing opponent to keep the scoreline intact. Ivandre Haaland tested the goalkeeper again in the 76th minute, but his effort was comfortably saved.
Further tactical changes saw Algin Kleynhans replace Lizzy in the 79th minute, followed by Boettie coming on for Kyle at right back a minute later. Despite these adjustments, the Future Stars capitalised on a defensive mistake in the 81st minute, scoring with a right-footed finish to narrow the gap to 3-2.
The Young Stars held firm in the closing stages to secure a hard-fought victory on the road. Their disciplined defensive work, combined with clinical finishing from their attacking midfielders and striker, proved decisive in this entertaining encounter.
