Away league match

FINALLY!! After weeks out of action due to the terrible, wet weather conditions, the Wasps made a long overdue return to league action away at Wolverhampton Olympic on this crisp winters morning. Still missing the injured Ben and striker Luke, it was a warm welcome back to action for Alfie following his injury troubles of late.

In what was a tight first half, with two very evenly matched teams fighting for the breakthrough, it was the Wasps who had the lion share of possession but without really creating many clear cut chances. Keeper Ethan mad an excellent fast reaction reflex save late in the first half to keep the scores level, when he parried away a well struck free kick from the edge of the box. Adding to his well tipped over long range strike a few minutes earlier. The back three were solid throughout the half and were being well protected by Kieran and Jake, with the latter being on top form, breaking up every Wolverhampton advance and seemingly covering every blade of grass.

Wordsley came out second half, to play up the slope but this did not seem to matter. We played some excellent football, passing in triangles and with good use of the wide players. The breakthrough came a few minutes into the half after a well delivered corner found the head of Jamie who was unlucky not to score. The keepers save fell to the feet of Jensen who prodded home for his first goal for the club.

Wasps soon doubled the lead when good wing play from Jack saw him cut inside of his marker and play a neat pass through to Matty who drove the ball home low and hard.

The game was settled towards the end when man of the match Jake found space and time around the box and hit a fierce left foot effort towards goal. The wicked deflection left the keeper stranded.

Wolverhampton managed to snatch a late contentious consolation goal, which was completely against the run of play and denied Ethan the clean sheet his performance deserved. The long distance punt up front found Ethan scrambling backwards and he managed to catch it well and showed good handling but the referee overruled the linesman and declared that the keeper had taken the ball over the line with this momentum and awarded the goal. Thankfully this made no effect on the end result and Wasps manage to keep our 100% start to the season.

A very pleasing performance all round, with Taylor and Jake being award the player of the match award from the coaches and match day referee.
