Home league match
Wasps travelled to bottom but one side Lickhill Colts today in search of making it 9 wins from 9 and holding on to this remarkable start to the season, as chase the leaders at the top of the league. Today we were missing Matty with holiday and Kieran due to injury but we still managed to start the game well by taking an early lead. Ethan volleyed home well after watching the flight of Taylor's corner and making a sweet connection. However, instead of kicking on a dominating the half, this woke the hosts up who were soon level and our high standards had dropped. The Colts battled hard and were well in the game for large parts of the half, testing our back line and Ben between the sticks. Mason was still causing trouble up front and was unlucky not to get on the score sheets but he was able to assist two goals before the break to see us with a 3-1 lead. Jack prodding home from close range after Mason latched onto a Taylor free kick and then, right on the stroke of half time, Mason's cushioned header to the feet of Taylor saw him lash in a venomous strike from long range into the top corner, with the Colts keeper not able to get a strong enough hand to it to keep it out.
The team knew at half time that we could improve and try and reach the high standards we had set ourselves this season so far.
The second half was a different story. We stayed camped in the Colts half and they were simple unable to handle the pressure. The goals came flooding in which started with Jasper neatly flicking home from another well delivered Taylor corner. Jack pounced on a goal keeping error and showed composure to drive the ball low and hard past the keeper to secure his brace.
Clever link up play in the box from AJ found Alfie in space, who got in on the act, neatly curling his effort past the out stretched keepers dive.
The crowds erupted into applause minutes later when Jamie got his second goal of the season, another long range well struck effort that left the keeper with no chance.
There was still time for Harry to bag a brace late on and put his earlier yellow card for pushing behind him. Excellent wing play from Jasper and Jack, saw them both deliver crosses that found Harry at the far post on both occasions to tap home.
9-1 winners in the end but a game of two halves for sure. The good run continues and we climb the table however, we will need to be at it from the start with stiffer opposition to come. Player of the match awards going to Taylor and Mason.
