Away league match
With the prospect of being able to end the year 2019 unbeaten, Wasps travelled to Kidderminster Athletic who have only lost one game this season so far. We started well with some nice moves in the opening exchanges. We took an early lead when Taylor burst through, taking on the last defending and then attempting to round the keeper who snapped at his ankles to make a good block. This found Alfie arriving into the box to neatly slot home to take the lead.
This bright start was the only real positive in an otherwise poor first half display. Athletic were dominating the play now and managed to get two goals in quick succession from deadly delivery from two corners. Add to this a poor swipe from Jasper, which saw him earn a yellow card and then followed by ill discipline from Taylor who saw his dissent back to the referee lead to an 8 minute sin bin.
The half time whistle was welcomed and the chance to get the Wasps in to regroup and have words. A new refreshed Wasp side seem to take the field and this lead to a total reversal of play. We were finally starting to click again and get back in our rhythm. We soon had the chance to level when Jake won us a penalty but was narrowly missed by Jamie.
It was then our turn to saw how we can be a threat from set pieces. Taylor, trying to make up for his earlier indiscretion, whipped in another good corner which found Jensen for a powering header to level the game.
Wasps were then sucker punched minutes later when Kiddi broke through our solid back three for the first time in the half and they slotted home to regain the lead.
Not wanting to lose our good record this year, the Wasps dug in and found more drive and desire. Taylor stepped up to take a long range free kick on the right hand side and his lofty strike found the top corner to make it 3-3.
Not content with pulling the game back twice now, Wordsley wanted the winner. Great effort and desire from Alfie and Jake on the left hand-side found Jake sprinting onto a ball down the left wing. His pin point cross into the box found Jack, who had made a 30 yard sprint to join the play. He not only made it to the ball ahead of the defender but he struck the ball sweetly and kept it down to burst the net for the winner.
It was backs to the wall style defending from all for the last 8 minutes and after a wonderful reaction save from Ethan in the dying seconds, the points were secure. 5 league wins from 5. What a second half and what a way to finish 2019.
Special mention to Jensen and Alex being awarded Player of the Match award - both outstanding throughout and gave us a solid platform to move forward with.
