Home cup match

Wasps welcomed fellow Division 2 outfit Cookley Falcons to Wordsley for this League Cup Quarter Final clash looking to progress to the next round, full of confidence from our 9-0 victory against the same opposition earlier this season.

Just like the earlier league game, Falcons started well and were unlucky not to take the lead in the opening exchanges when they struck the post. However, this proved to be the wakeup call we required and Wasps started to gain control of the game and goals soon flowed freely to make it a combatable passage through to the semi-finals. After neat exchanges down the left wing between Harry and Alfie and with our midfield starting to dominate the ball it was only a matter of time before the breakthrough came. This came in the form of three goals in quick succession, a brace from Matty and a well struck long range free kick from Taylor, to knock the stuffing out of Falcons who then made it 4-0 at the break with an own goal headed in from a Taylor corner.

The second half saw us double our half time lead and score another 4 goals. Solid base at the back with standout performances from Alex and Ethan lead to us pushing forward and causing Falcons all sorts of problems. This led to them conceding two penalties, which saw Kieran dispatch them coolly with neat strikes. Harry got in on the action with a neat solo goal and Jack added a late goal with a far post tap in after a delightful whipped cross from a Jamie free kick. Falcons managed a late consolation goal to spoil the chances of a clean sheet but Wasps march on and we now look forward to a February semi-final. Player of the match awards going to Alex and Ethan.
