Wasps Snatch Late Winner In Top Of The Table Clash!

Cookley Cobras arrived today still thinking they were hard done by from our last fixture when we upset them by beating them 3-2 at their home ground. They were bang up for it but were match with a tough and resilient Wasps side who started the better in the first half. We made our presence known throughout and we were winning all the duels across the pitch. This lead to us taking an early lead when positive direct play from Alfie and a pin point cross found Jack in the box who slotted home for the lead and his 7th goal of the campaign.

It was a tough half with limited chances for both sides but when Kieran set Mason free down the right channel with only seconds left to play of the half, the crowd went wild when Mason cut into the box and lifted the ball over the keeper to double our lead.

Cobras came out in the second half with a point to prove and nicked a goal back with only a minute played, from a through ball which was slotted past Ben.

The momentum in the game had changed and Cobras were throwing everything at us and it was backs to the wall. We managed to hold out for 20 minutes with two excellent saves from Ben to keep our lead. However, with 15 minutes to go, Cobras managed to draw level.

Wasps manage to rally and find our foothold in the game again and started to take the game to them. Late changes saw Taylor and Alfie brought back into the action and it was this partnership that led to the winner in stoppage time. Neat switching of the play to Jake and a good ball down the line found Alfie who whipped over another superb cross which found the late run of Taylor who volleyed home the winner. Scene and limps everywhere and we held out for the victory which sees us go just 2 points behind Cobras with games in hand.

Player of the match award went to Alex and AJ for a commanding tough tackling classy display.
