vs Black Country Cobras
Away league match
Wordsley travelled to Black Country Cobras and a ground where we have struggled in previous years in search of another victory to keep our 100% start to the season. The tone for the day was set in the first minute of the game , which saw Cobras struggle with the quick passing leading to an early opener from Harry. This was quickly followed by two goals in quick succession from top scorer Alfie, both assisted by our new signing Mason, who was settling into our play nicely. The goals kept flowing and it led to Ethan getting his first goal of the campaign, after his successful spell in goal, when he prodded home from a Taylor corner. The delight was palpable for Mason minutes later when he latched on to the end of a Taylor free kick to score his first ever Wasps goal to open his account for the club. Wasps were in total command and Cobras could not lay a glove on us throughout. Arguably the goal of the game came mid way through the half when Taylor took a player out of the game on the half way line with a neat Maradonna turn and then found Jasper who had pulled out wide left. Japers perfectly timed lay off found Taylor, who had continued his run, who then smashed home from long range. There was still time before the half time break for Alfie to complete his very stylish hat trick and then for Taylor to return the favour to Jasper, who scored after another excellent one-two passing move.
8-0 at half time certainly had to be a Wasps record and it allowed us to make plenty of changes throughout the game to try and make sure everyone played as many minutes a possible. Goals still flowed in the second half with another from Harry and one from Matty, both set up from Jack who completed his hat rick of assists from his wide right position. Tricky foot work from Harry fooled the defender and won us a penalty, which saw Kieran step up and hit the bar but then smashed home the rebound. Matty rounded up our scoring and completed his brace showing great power to hold off his marker and drive it past the Cobras stopper. The only frustrating note was we allowed Cobras to tap home in the final minute, after a corner and goal mouth scramble to lose our clean sheet. This was only a side note though and in no way over shadowed what was a fantastic all round performance from start to finish by all. Player of the match awards were given to Taylor and Kieran.
