Home league match
In the last of the summer sunshine the Wasps took to our new 11 a side pitch at Summerhill. Sporting the new 2019/2020 kit and with all of our summer signings, the Wasps were ready to go. The early lead came courtesy of Alfie after some neat combination work between the front two, saw Matty slide him in to calmly slot home. The lead was doubled minutes later when goal scorer turned provider, as Alfie found the in form Jasper who added to his impressive pre-season goal tally. With the confidence starting to ooze back into the side, Wasps put Cobras to the sword and added a third before half time. A clever short free kick by Jake, found Kieran in space who had his long range dipping shot parried out by the keeper to the delight of Luke, making his competitive debut. His quick thinking and sharp reactions meant that he was there to tap in for his first ever goal.
The three goal lead at the break saw the players come in with smiles on faces but with a clear determination not to let Cobras back into the game in the second half. The back three were absolutely solid, protecting Ben from any chances at our goal. Jamie was in total command in the holding midfield role and gave us the drive to push on and look for more goals.
The floodgates opened and Wasps took total control. Harry, playing well in a new position, was still able to get on the score sheet when he was found by Jensen. With all wing backs, Jake/Jasper and Harry on top form and beating their men and with Taylor pulling all the strings in the middle, it meant that we starved Cobras of the ball.
Taylor then added a swift double by converting another penalty and with a very well worked goal from a short corner, which saw his long range curling effort settle in the far corner.
There was still time for Alfie to bag his brace with a neat strike and Matty to get his first goal of the season, after being played in by Taylor to round off another well worked team move.
Player of the match awards were handed to Jamie and Taylor by the match official.
A strong start to the new campaign and now we move onward having set a high bar.
