WGFC MAKE IT 3 WINS OUT OF 3

<p>Witham Galacticos welcomed Brookhouse to our home ground who had a good start to their season with 2 wins out of 3. H Stoneham was out of contention having picked up a long term injury in the week and Adams was also missing.

<p>Witham started quickly going a goal up in 43 seconds. Yeo made room outside the box and his left foot shoot hit the inside of the post and trickled in. Witham dominated possession but lacked the final ball to penetrate. On 20 minutes O'Connor dispossessd the full back and pulled the ball back to Yates but he shot was well blocked when looking odds on to score. Yates was at it again when he picked the ball up just outside the box, beat 2 men and chipped the ball over the keeper had it not been for the underside of the bar it would have been 2-0. Yates got on the scoresheet with his third attempt with a well placed header after a great ball from J Stoneham, the linesman tried to flag for offside but the ref rightly overruled him.

<p>Witham pushed forward knowing the opponents were there for the taking and Johnson was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet after some great build up play but the keeper saved well from close range. Yates then see his shot saved superbly from 18 yards. Humphrys was having a superb game at the back with some great tackles and a good aeriel display to see off any comeback. His partner at the back Jackson come close to getting his second goal of the season after a quick counter attack but his finish was well saved. Holder nearly got his debut goal of the season but his thunderous drive from 20 yards agonisingly went inches wide of the post. Eventually on 80 minutes Witham got their 3rd goal and it was top scorer O'Connor who made his trademark run to the front post and headed home a great delivery from J Stoneham's corner. Witham pushed on looking for the fourth but to no avail but a strong performance from the home teams back line ensured another cleansheet and 9 points out of 9

<p>It wasn't our best performance of in recent weeks and we are capable of a lot better, but 3 points gained and the business done. Our back four was very strong today with good performances from Rowlands, Murphy, Humphreys and Jackson with Humphreys being the pick and todays man of the match. Great performance from him standing in at centre back today. Next week we entertain last season's county cup junior trophy winners who are also undefeated this season scoring a handful of goals and sitting top in div 1 of the Colchester league.
