Neutral league match
Winchburgh Albion Whites faced off against Whitburn Clarets this Saturday. The boys were led by Captain Tom in the early morning game.
The Whites got off to a strong start, putting pressure on the Clarets in the opening phases. Most of the game was played in the opposition half, with Dexter coming close, his shot from the right hand side coming off the outside of the post.
The Whitburn team worked themselves into the game and created some chances of their own, with Tom clearing the ball with a good defensive header and the Whites defending the corner that followed to keep the scores level.
The deadlock was broken after 7 minutes with a goal of the season contender. Dexter passed the ball back to Captain Tom who shot from 20 yards out to send the ball looping over every one and into the back of the net.
The Whites kept the pressure up in the moments that followed, with Aaron driving down the right wing and coming close with a shot of his own. Caelen and Kai linked up well in the middle of the park to create a number of attacks down the left.
As the half went on, the Whitburn team grew into the game and began to put more pressure on the Whites. Cullen did well to save from a corner to keep the Whites in front going into the half time break.
The second half was tough, with the Whitburn side proving hard to break down and getting forward more themselves. They managed to get on level terms with a goal coming from a corner.
The game then opened up a bit with chances at both ends. Jenson displayed good footwork bringing the ball out of defence, with Noah and Caleb working hard to press in forward areas, unfortunate not to get clear chances against a solid defence. The Clarets goalkeeper had some excellent saves from shots from Kai and Dexter, but the Whites couldn’t add to their tally. The Whitburn team got another goal of their own and defended well to keep the Whites out in the closing stages.
Dexter worked hard today and was the referee’s choice as MOTM.
A valuable learning opportunity and there will be plenty to work on in training in the coming weeks.
Mon the Albion!
