Neutral league match

The whites were in league action early this morning against Whitburn, who have recently dropped down from the advanced league, so we knew it was going to be a tough game.

Michael captained the team today and there was some good attacking and defending on show from the start.

The game was end to end until mid way through the first half. Noah beat a couple of Whitburn players, and had an excellent shot stopped by the Whitburn keeper although, he was unable to hold into the ball and Aaron followed in to slot home well.

A few minutes later, with advantage being played after Noah took an awkward landing, Aaron lobbed the ball over the keeper from the angle finishing superbly to double his and the Whites tally.

Just before the break, Whitburn pulled a goal back with a decent finish of their own.

At the halftime break, our boys were clearly playing the better football which had one Whitburn coach and some of their players rattled as they started with name calling and sly digs on the pitch.

Our boys kept their heads and continued to play some excellent football in the second half and we were rewarded with a penalty following a Whitburn defender handling the ball in the box. Dexter stepped up to take it but the keeper made an excellent save and the rebound went agonisingly wide.

The boys kept at it and the rest of the second half was another tight end to end battle which saw us playing some outstanding football!

The boys should all be proud of themselves and everyone could have been considered for man of the match today.

Cullen made some outstanding saves and his decision making in coming out for the ball was excellent. Michael, Tom and Jenson were solid in defence and made some key tackles with Jenson also having a stint in midfield, keeping it tight and distributing the ball well. Dexter was top class in the middle of the park, making tackles and starting attacks with some really energetic play. Caelen did well on the left with some good composure and defence splitting passing. Noah worked really hard up front and was not giving the Whitburn players any time on the ball with his pressing. Aaron worked tirelessly up and down the right, winning plenty of duels against some physical boys and got a couple of goals.

The referee’s man of the match was awarded to Aaron, which was well deserved!

Really proud of the performance the boys put in today!

‘Mon the Albion!
