Home league match
In a closely contested midweek fixture, Winchburgh Albion hosted Mid Calder Colts at Barrett’s Park. Despite being a late kick off, the teams brought energy and intensity from the outset.
Winchburgh Albion, captained by Tom, started brightly and applied significant pressure in the first five minutes. Noah was industrious in the first period, pressing the Mid Calder team and winning numerous tackles to set up attacks.
The first big chance came when Zac’s tackle enabled Noah to pass to Dexter. Dexter made a lung-bursting run down half the pitch and came close to breaking the deadlock. Mid Calder quickly countered, creating a chance of their own in what was an end-to-end game. Jenson, Tom and Nikodem defended bravely at the back to keep the game level, and goalless, heading into the break.
Winchburgh started brightly after halftime, with Dexter and Caleb combining effectively on the right side. Dexter set up Kai, whose shot was blocked. Dexter’s subsequent shot was also blocked, but Caleb capitalised on the rebound to score, putting Winchburgh ahead.
Mid Calder responded with a fierce attack, but Marco made a superb save, pushing a powerful, high shot over the bar. Winchburgh then surged forward, with Noah weaving through defenders and setting up Aaron, who shot wide.
As the rain began to fall, Mid Calder equalised with a shot from the right-hand side. As the game opened up, both teams began to tire and, although Winchburgh created several opportunities in the closing stages, they were unable to find a winner.
The match was played in a great spirit - well done to both teams.
Man of the Match was a close contest, with Noah and Jenson performing really well, but the honours tonight go to Marco for a few outstanding saves which were important for the team.
It's a quick turnaround as Winchburgh Albion Whites are back in action on Saturday, taking on Linlithgow Rose Inter. The Reds are due to make their debut next Wednesday!
