The 2015s were in action this morning against newly promoted Blackburn United Whites in what was another tough game.
Michael led the team out as captain this week and the boys showed early dominance. Despite not closing the ball down as quickly as we should have been, we were really strong in our tackling particularly from Kai and Jenson in the midfield.
As the first half went on, we continued to dominate the ball with some good passing between Kai, Aaron, Noah, Zac, Cael and Caleb however, we struggled to take advantage of a few half chances. After some miscommunication at the back, Blackburn nipped in to open the scoring just before the break.
The half time talk gave the players a much needed lift and we continued dominating the ball and we’re now closing everything down quicker; limiting Blackburn to very few attacks and keeping Marco quiet in goal. Michael put in a captains performance at the back with some excellent tackling and passing to start our attacks which was well backed up by Jenson and Nikodem who were just as relentless in defence.
Our continued pressure finally paid off with Caleb making an excellent tackle deep in the Blackburn half and smashing it past the keeper who had made several outstanding saves up to that point.
The last 10 minutes of the game was played in the Blackburn half and the boys kept creating chance after chance however, with some good defending and more excellent saves from their keeper, another goal eluded us.
A really good team performance once again and plenty of positives to take from the match.
Player of the match this week goes to Kai for his dominance in midfield with excellent tacking, tracking back, passing and several shots on goal.
