Scoreline Tough On Town!

A stunning, sunny morning for the visit of a strong Wycombe Wanderers to be played on the 3G at Wimborne Town. To add to the injuries, Sophie and Maddie were late casualties with illness, good news with Brooke S and Eva available after their own illness battles.

An even opening to the match, the usual predicted arm wrestle for ten minutes until players settled into their roles. A slight mix up somewhat gifted an opening to the visitors which was punished by a very confident looking Wycombe attack (0-1). A second goal, this time well constructed and clinically finished (0-2) forced a late reaction from the team with Sienna, Georgia and Carly all having chances although not able to find the target.

HT 0-2

Two goals adrift at the break but the girls had competed well in the opening 45 minutes. A very disappointing third goal within a minute of the restart made for an uphill task that the team did not recover from (0-3). Really good patient football played by the girls at times but it was the visitors that had the clinical edge required, another two goals (0-5) added to the tally.

The team played themselves into good areas but still could not fully test the visiting goalkeeper. A late consolation goal, Laila showing the way, guiding the ball between angle of post and bar from a corner kick that gave the team some reward (1-5) but a scruffy annoying goal followed from the visitors, a sixth on the day (1-6).

FT:

Wimborne Town 1

Wycombe W. 6

POM: Lila (strong attitude, tried to affect the game and get her team on the front foot)

Summary:

On one hand……not quite at it today and a clinical Wycombe team found too much space within 20 yards of goal too many times.

On the flip side…..there were no head drops, the girls played good football at times, had a lot of control in the game although could not find that finish to put enough doubt into Wycombe minds!
