Too Easy For Town!
The team welcomed Sussex RTC to the New Cuthbury for the third match in their cup group. Another much anticipated competitive match had the dampeners put on with the arrival of 10 players only. Although this team are keen for success they would preferably match up against a full team of opposition! As the saying goes ‘you can only play what’s in front of you!’
Maybe the fact of playing an undermanned team, the girls struggled to hit their stride. Even with a goal notched up within 8 minutes, Emilia’s low drive into the corner of the goal from Olivia’s assist (1-0), the team rarely moved out of second gear. They did have their moments however, on 18 minutes Emilia broke down the left flank and crossed for Meg to claim her first (2-0). Shortly before half time Olivia added a third, tapping in after Izzy’s shot was saved (3-0).
HT 3-0
The second half saw a similar pattern, the team playing within themselves but always having too much for a Sussex outfit that at one point were down to 7 players on the pitch. Two goals midway through the half gave the scoreline a more realistic look, Meg breaking from Lila’s pass ((4-0) and Carly releasing Olivia to score (5-0). A hardworking visiting team had given a lot to the game but as fatigue set in the predicted flurry of late goals did come. Olivia bagged two more, the first profiting from Charlotte’s run into the box (6-0) before calmly rounding the Gk and slotting in (7-0) to take her tally to four. Emilia cut inside to drill a right footed effort (8-0) and Megan’s 1-2 with Carly left only the Gk to beat which she did with ease (9-0) to give her a hat trick goal.
FT: 9-0
POM: Olivia (calm and assured, four very well taken goals)
Summary:
Frustratingly easy! The girls did what they had to do without ‘pulling up trees’. A very quiet game for Esme, Eva and Charlotte dominated at central defence, Maddie and Sophie went quietly about their business at full back. Laila broke up any potential danger at CDM, Lily, Lila, Carly and Izzy unlocked the doors for Liv, Meg and Emilia to rack up the goals!
Well done to the travelling team on what was a very tough ask for them, the ones that bothered to turn up gave 100% effort. I’m sure the league match in Brighton, on their home pitch in a few weeks time will be a much more competitive affair!
Well done team ??
