Tough For Town!
Oxford were the visitors to Wimborne as the team returned to league action. A team with fluctuating results although when these two met in Oxford, a competitive first half ended in a three goal swing to the home side. Far from ideal prep this week losing Laila, Ava, Izzy and Sophia to injury, Ashleigh not quite ready for return yet and Eva not available for the first time this season.
From the first whistle it was pretty obvious the visitors had brought their ‘A’ game, very aggressive in their press and all round very comfortable on the ball. In truth, there was a gulf between these two teams today although it proved a good test defensively for the team. Certainly not through a lack of trying, the girls struggled to pass around a good opponent, unable to link the combinations necessary to afford enough territory in more attacking areas. For all of the good football played in the first period, it was to be the scrappiest of goals that separated the teams at the break, the ball squeezing inside the near post from a corner kick (0-1).
HT 0-1
A similar pattern to the second half although the team did link things better to relieve pressure. A well struck hit (0-2) and a free kick strike from the edge of the penalty area (0-3) gave the visitors daylight, giving the away team the points they deserved.

POM: Belle (Enjoys the challenge of this type of match, gave her all)
Summary:
A little disjointed at times, a lack of movement and accuracy in passing invited a very good team to dominate for long periods. A big defensive effort stopped the scoreline escalating.
