Tough on Town!

Potentially the last home game of the season saw the visit of Millwall. A crazy match away to this team recently saw the girls suffer a 6-1 defeat. No Emilie, Izzy, Emily, Jess or Laila for this one.

A really sluggish start from the team saw them concede twice in the first 20 minutes. A run from deep, breaking two challenges and a clinical finish for the first (0-1), then the team failing to tidy up easy possession, gifting a second (0-2) with only 13 minutes on the clock. To their credit the girls dug in but although creating a few half chances, they could not find an accurate pass or clinical shot to score a goal and turn the tide.

A reasonably even second period for the most part, Wimborne throwing caution to the wind with three at the back in an effort to find that elusive goal and Millwall looking to hit quickly on the break. Again, half chances came and went, Eva and Meg not quite finding the target and Megan’s looping header well clawed away from Brooke’s well crafted assist. It was always going to be a bit ‘chancy’ and the visitors’ patience was rewarded with two late strikes with quick counters (0-3) (0-4).

Summary:

A very frustrating morning for the girls. More than capable of matching a good Millwall side but a seeming lack of confidence led to unforced mistakes and a lack of accuracy when needed. This young side will look to pick themselves up in prep for a matchup against a very improved Andover team in a weeks time!
