***Match Report***

The team travelled to Aldershot to play Inspire Girls, a team that caused a headache for the team in footballing terms in their last encounter. An off day for the team had resulted in a 7-1 defeat on that day but this Wimborne team had learned lessons from the defeat.

Another strong start from the girls, taking the game to their opposition from the first whistle. Inspire came into the game around 10 mins in, showing threats of their own but Town looked the more likely to break the deadlock. With 27 minutes played the pressure told, good work from Emilia finding Emilie whose effort hit the crossbar, the ball falling to Carly who played a one two with the goalpost before slotting home (0-1). This goal was reward for a string of consistent performances from the popular team player. The hosts were struggling to contain the girls’ and the team looked certain to increase the lead soon after but a scrambled defence somehow kept out Carly again and an audacious Emilie back heel! Not sure where she got that idea from! The girls pressed but could not find that important second goal, Liv going closest from Izzy’s pass, her shot narrowly clearing the crossbar. Inspire also had moments during the half, a disallowed goal ruled out for offside their closest effort.

HT 0-1

Another strong start to the second period, Izzy in particular close to a goal, her shot grazing the crossbar. It sounds obvious to say but the next goal was going to be crucial, the girls’ had gone close on several occasions but could not find the second goal and as the match clock ticked past the hour mark the home side earned a penalty after a tricky dribble into the box was stopped in its tracks! Eva having no option, upending her player before she pulled the trigger. To be fair it was a run of quality that resulted in the spot kick which was stroked narrowly wide of Esme in goal (1-1). Both teams wanted to win which meant for an end to end finish to the match, Wimborne went close through Izzy from Carly’s pass before the team had a real reprieve, inspire finding the net again only for the striker to be ruled narrowly offside.

FT:

Inspire 1-1 WTFC

POM:

Esme (a confident display, good handling and distribution)

Summary:

A really competitive match, no inch given easily by either team.

A point was the minimum the team deserved today with plenty of attacking intent and a defence that stood up to be counted in a resilient team effort.
