West Jesmond AFC 0 Willington Quay Saints 3
Our fine run in the Northern Alliance League cup competition continued with a solid win over a West jesmond side who are flying high in the league below.
With gale force winds causing havoc both sides struggled to get into rhythm early on with the home side going closest, the Quay grateful for centre half Jay Brown clearing one off the goalline.
We had the wind to our advantage but failed to capitalise until the half hour mark when Louis Hutton opened the scoring after receiving a pass from Foreman the youngster curled a long range effort over the keeper into the corner with a little help from the wind for his first ever Saints goal.
The lead was doubled just before the interval, Alex Foreman did brilliantly to slide and win the ball back before curling an inch perfect ball across the face of goal for Ryan Mcgorrigan to control and calmly slot past the keeper for his 6th goal of the season.
Jesmond started the second half with the wind in their favour and went close with a series of set pieces that narrowly flew across goal or were cleared by Ellis Burns and his defence.
The game was wrapped up with 15 minutes to go when Joe Connor went on a mazy run before squaring the ball across goal for substitute Sean Conway to run on and slam home his first of the season from 6 yards to put the Quay into the quarters.
The home side went close with a long range effort towards the end but we held firm to register our first clean sheet for 15 months (36 games)
We will face Prudhoe at home in the Quarter Final on the 26th of January.
