Away league match

Willingtons five game unbeaten streak was ended with an emphatic defeat away to third placed Cramlington, the Saints 600th game in all competitions not one they will look back on with great fondness.

Ryan Ferrier back in the Saints lineup had two chances to put the Quay ahead early on but first his shot was blocked by a defender then his free header went straight at the keeper from close range.

Cramlington striker Luke Taylor headed a glorious chance wide of the post with his sides first effort at goal before a great curling effort from 25 yards right was superbly tipped past the post by Saints keeper Luke Ord.

The deadlock was broken in the 40th minute as the home side took the lead, a corner came over from the right and Saints centre half Noel Clynch was unlucky to deflect the ball into his own net under pressure from United centre half Billy Pulman.

The Saints didn't respond well to going behind and they conceded a second minutes later as Trae Rowlandson was played through on goal and he made no mistake smashing high past Ord to put his side two goals up at the break.

Half time did nothing to stop Cramlington's momentum and they got a third 5 minutes after the interval when John Wilson

cut inside on the left before powering his strike past Ord at the front post.

Wilson got a second goal five minutes later when he was first to react to Ord parrying a shot, the striker tapped in the rebound to make it 4-0.

Brandon Williams pulled a goal back for the Quay from the penalty spot when the referee spotted a handball in the area, sending his left footed spot kick high into the top right corner but any hopes of a comeback were ended with the dismissal of substitute Kane Chirnside for lashing out after being pushed.

United substitute Antony Brannon made it five for his side with the goal of the game as he smashed an unstoppable half volley past Ord into the corner from 25 yards with ten minutes to go before Rowlandson grabbed his second of the afternoon with the last kick of the game as he crashed the ball home after a goalmouth scramble.

A disappointing day for the Quay as they were well beaten by a good Cramlington side but with ten games still to go and sitting in 4th place there is still plenty to play for.
