vs Blyth FC

Home cup match

The Saints bowed out of the Minor cup at the first hurdle with a disappointing second half display costing them the tie as a strong Blyth FC side made them pay to go into the hat for round 3.

Luke Ord replaced Ellis burns in goal while Lee Crammond and Alex Foreman replaced the unavailable Dan Coleman and Aaron Sindhar.

Louis Hutton had the first effort of the game but was denied by a smart save from David Watts in the Blyth goal who dived to his right to keep the ball out.

Blyths first effort of the game rattled the crossbar with McClelland desperately unlucky not to open the scoring with a powerful effort from just inside the area.

Blyth looked to have opened the scoring when they fired home from close range but the goal was ruled out for offside before Mclelland left two Quay defenders for dead but could only fire his effort straight at Ord.

The visitors were highly fortunate to have 11 men on the field after an awful lunge from their left back on Thirlaway only saw a yellow card five minutes before the break.

The best chance of the half fell to Blyth forward Joe Moscrop but he somehow headed over from just 4 yards after a wonderful ball into the box.

Saints captain Callum Ancrum was forced off with injury at half time and was replaced by Jack Renwick at left back.

The quay took the lead shortly after half time as a lovely ball through from Louis Hutton sent Rossy through on goal and he made no mistake to fire low into the corner

Blyth through on sub Brent Aisbitt and he immediately made a difference as he pounced on a defensive mistake at a corner to head home from a few yards out to level the game.

Set pieces were to prove the Saints downfall and they went behind after another one came into the area this time a free kick was headed brilliantly past Ord by McClellland

Aisbitt grabbed a second of the game from a corner this time glancing home a header from a near post delivery that was horribly defended by the Quay

The icing on the cake for Blyth was a 4th goal from a set piece as Kieran Egen volleyed home an unstoppable right footed effort after finding far to much space in the area at a corner.
