Home league match
The Quay found themselves 3-1 winners for the third game in a row as they overcame league newcomers Ashington Reserves and gale force stormy winds to climb to 5th in the table in front of an empty High Flatworth due to the government restrictions on fans attending.
Both of last weeks centre halves Lanty and Captain Cram were missing so Hoody dropped back into centre half with Jay coming back into the eleven to partner him, Coley stepped into central midfield while Conway replaced Rossy up top.
Saints went ahead 12 minutes into the game Joe Connor swinging in a corner where Hoody was on hand to bury a powerful header into the ground and into the net for his second goal in 2 games after not scoring in his first 22.
Ashington should of been level 5 minutes later a move down the left saw Saints keeper Dodga make a cracking save to deny their winger and when the rebound was squared to striker Andy Welch he had the goal gaping but somehow fired it straight at the feet of the Saints keeper in a glaring miss.
To be fair to Welsh he didn't let the miss get him down and he did get his side back on level terms on the half hour mark when he escaped his marker at a wonderfully curled in free kick to superbly flick a volley home from 8 yards.
Just before half time Willington got a very important goal to lead at the break, Conway the games outstanding player on the day cut inside before stinging the Ashington keepers hands with his strike the rebound spilling to the edge of the box where Ryan Ferrier was on hand to smash a low strike in through a crowded penalty area for his 2nd goal of the new season.
Alex nearly gave the Saints a great start to the 2nd half when he curled a cracking free kick with his left foot that beat the keeper but crashed back off the bar with Fez unable to get onto the rebound with an imaginative back flick.
The Quay got the the 3rd goal on the hour mark with Alex getting a well deserved goal as he ran onto Hoodys long clearance forward and calmly flicked the ball over the on rushing keeper before crashing the ball into the empty net.
Saints youngster Liam Malby came on and almost got his 1st Saints goal in the latter stages as twice he was inches away from sublime crosses into the area from man of the match Conway who almost capped a great display with a goal when his effort from Luke's cross was saved and the rebound smashed just over the bar by little Rossy.
A comfortable win once the Saints got the 2nd goal in a game ruined by the strong winds top of the table Newcastle Uni come to Flatworth next week in what looks to be a big game in the race for promotion.
