Home league match

Top of the table Newbiggin produced a quality comeback from 2-0 down to leave the Barking Dog with the win with the Saints disappointed not to get anything from the game.

Both sides came into the game in good form and scoring plenty of goals but the first half was a nervy affair with few chances Newbiggin missing the best of them in the first 30 seconds when Tony Lucas the leagues top scorer ran through on goal but fired just wide of Luke Ord's post.

Willington brought the game to life five minutes after the break with a fantastic opening goal, Joe Connor hustled the Newbiggin defence into a mistake before rolling the ball into the path of Brandon Williams who superbly bent the ball into the top right corner with the outside of his left foot from just inside the box for his 7th goal of the season.

With the Quay on a high they then doubled their lead with another quality goal, Ross Thirlaway finding midfielder Lee Crammond 25 yards out and he curled an unstoppable right footed rocket into the corner leaving the keeper helpless.

Ryan Mcgorrigan almost made it 3-0 to the home side when he ran through on goal but he was forced wide by the keeper before his shot from a tight angle hit the side netting.

The visitors comeback started with a stunning goal of their own as midfielder Kyle Downey bent a brilliant free kick over the wall and into the top right corner from 25 yards to set up a nervy last 20 minutes for the Saints.

Five minutes late the scores were level as a high cross to the back post was met by the leap of Newbiggin's Liam Armstrong and he made no mistake in heading past Ord to score from 6 yards.

The comeback was complete with 8 minutes to go, a long ball wasn't dealt with by the Saints's defence leading to winger Aidan Lynn being sent through on goal where he showed great composure to fire into the corner to win the game and keep Newbiggin on top of the Division Two table.
