Away cup match

Wigmore were drawn in the Kent Cup against unknown New Road FC, Wigmore on the back of a poor result wanted to make a statement, players fighting for places and keen to impress.

The game plan was clear - work hard, play football and the result will take care of itself. The first 10 minutes went and Wigmore looked like a different team, a team full of confidence and determination and had it not been for some rather wasteful finishing could of been 4 nil up.

The game then drifted and Wimore drifted into their early season form, lack of work rate, lack of communication and players not playing for one another. Half time came with Wigmore one nil up, not the best half by any means but clearly a much better team than their opponents.

The second half began.... well it did for New Road FC as what followed was possibly the most shocking 30 minutes of football Wigmore have ever played. Mistake after mistake after mistake, the midfield overrun and 2 sin bins to reduce Wigmore to 9 men. How the score remained 1-0 at this stage was unbelievable. Once Wigmore were back to full compliment of 11 players they somehow managed to play even worse to that when they had 9 on the field.

New Road FC deservedly equalised with 15 minutes to go. This sparked Wigmore into some life and grabbed a late winner to ensure they went through to the next round.

What should of been a 8-0 walk in the park turned into a nervy and disappointing game.

Wigmore need to learn very quickly that playing for the team is the most important role on the pitch, the one major positive is that Wigmore can not play as bad in the next game
