Match Report - HEMPSTEAD VALLEY FIRST - 15 Sep 2024

Second league game of the season, Wigmore were looking to improve their performance from the week before.

The game started and Wigmore we quickly in their stride, short crisp passing and for 20 minutes dominated the play but without creating much in terms of chances, then as last week the energy levels dropped and simple passes were going astray, yes some players were slightly out of position but their opponents were not that to be feared.

As the game carried on, Wigmore for the second week running went back to their old ways, long ball, wayward passing and little communication the game became tough to watch.

Half time and the score nil nil, the coaching staff hard a few harsh words with the players as the performance was well below par.

This seemed to have an immediate impact as soon as the second half whistle blew Wigmore looked up for it and scored shortly after the restart, the lead lasted only for a couple of minutes as HV equalised. The game was very much in the balance with sloppy passing becoming a theme over the past two weeks.

Finally Wigmore got their noses back in front after 73 minutes but the game was far from over, but the result was sealed in the 88th minute when Wigmore made it 3-1.

The final whistle blew, the team and staff wasn't pleased with the performance but at this stage of the season the win is the most important thing.
