Away league match
Whitstable Bay played a very strong aggressive Minster side in the Clubs first ever league game.
The Yawlers started the game using a new formation which the team had not settled into before Minster capitalised on after only 5 minutes with a shot in from the right managed to find the net even though keeper David Hannaway got his hand to it.
Both teams battled really well to try and gain the upper hand, but even with some interesting referee decisions Whitstable Bay began to dominate with good possession of the ball. A battle between Minster's centre back and kingpin for there team and the Yawlers striker Newman Poku eventually led to a collision between the Minster goalkeeper and there aggressive centre back whilst under pressure from Poku. Both players had to leave the pitch and we wish them a speedy recovery.
The equaliser came just before half time when a pass from Stephen Munn found Poku in space who turned and hit a screamer into the top of the oppositions net.
After the break and still level, Whitstable Bay took control of the game with good passing and possession which led to a free kick just outside of Minsters area. Jerry Adjei stepped up and hit an almost perfect free kick into the left hand corner of the opposition's goal to put the Yawlers in front by 2-1.
Minster still had enough of a fight in them to cause problems and a rare attack and shot caused a great save from Hannaway to keep the Yawlers lead intact, the passing and good shape retention helped to create the third goal when a good pass to Callum Gore on the left put him in a one on one situation which he swiftly went past the defender and produced a perfect cross for Poku to head his second and the Yawlers third into the far corner. A number of substitutions were made in the last 20 minutes of the game with Lee Irving replacing the hard working Codie Dean. Irving was dropped into midfield to help protect the Yawlers lead, but after some more good possession play turned and scored into the bottom left hand corner of the Minster goal. Lucas Bull-Anthony and Alex Quartson-Aidoo came on for two of the three excellent centre backs, Matt Guilabitteng and Steve Murray and helped to secure Whitstable Bay's first ever league win 4-1.
