Home league match

Westfield made it six games unbeaten to retain top spot in division two after a comfortable 2-0 victory against Victoria Baptists. Elsewhere fellow title challengers Northiam and Little Common played out a 1-1 draw to allow Westfield to extend their lead at the top to two points over Northiam. Little Common lie in third place, three points behind the leaders, with a game in hand.

Westfield started the game just as they had in their previous outing against Bexhill Rovers by taking an immediate lead after just two minutes. The cultured Joe Page played a laser guided through ball into the path of the combative Jacob Shelton and he slid home his first of the season beyond the onrushing keeper.

Westfield were enjoying the lions share of possession and carved out numerous opportunities which they failed to capitalise on. Then, with 7 minutes of the half remaining, the outstanding Taylor Beale let fly from 25 yards out and his rasping drive flew into the top corner despite the valiant efforts of the Baptists keeper. 2-0 and half time.

The second half continued in much the same vain but Westfield couldn’t increase their lead. With 4 minutes to go centre half Leon Mende got into nosebleed territory following a long Beale throw on but he couldn’t direct his effort on target despite being just 6 yards out.

Westfield now get to enjoy the winter break sitting a top the division but they know there will be tougher tests to come in the new year if they want to hold on to that position. ????
