Westfield continued their impressive form with a conclusive 4-1 victory against a depleted Catsfield outfit at a rain sodden Catsfield Rec to remain top of the table.
Westfield took ten minutes to get going and could easily have been behind if not for JJ Blanche’s excellent reflexes and the width of a post. But Kyle ‘KJ’ Young continued his barnstorming recent performances when he struck a superb 25 yard drive inside the near post after a Steve Payne lay off. 1-0.
Westfield were keeping the ball like a prime ‘09 Barca team and they made it two after just 15 minutes when George MacLean broke away down the right and teed up Young to fire home for his second of the afternoon.
Westfield made it 3 just after the half hour when another fine passing move freed the lively Sonny Dullaway down the right hand side and his pin point low cross picked out Payne to tap in from a couple of yards out.
The second half was a drab affair with neither side creating too much but Westfield enjoyed by far the majority of the possession. Then, with around 15 minutes left to play, Dayne Beaumont struck a gorgeous effort from the edge of the box which flew into the corner beyond the goalkeepers despairing reach. 4-0.
Catsfield did grab a consolation with about 5 minutes remaining when Blanche’s clearance inadvertently rebounded off a Catsfield attacker and bounced into the net but it was Westfield who saw out the game in comfortable fashion.
Top of the table Westfield now have two weeks off of league action but make the long away trip to Crawley next Saturday for their County Cup tie against Ifield Sport. ????
