Westfield moved to the top of the table with a resounding 7-0 victory over basement club Bexhill Rovers at Gunters Lane on a mild and bright December afternoon.
Amazingly Westfield raced into a 3-0 lead after just 3 minutes and it all started after 60 seconds when Lee Paine slammed home from 6 yards out after Jay Edwards had deftly flicked a Warren Pethig cross into his path. 1-0.
It was 2-0 just a minute later when the brilliant Steve Payne played a wonderful though ball to his midfield colleague Kyle Churchman and the combative midfielder sent a delightful chip arcing over the keeper and into the far top corner. 2-0.
It was 3-0 just moments later when Westfield won the ball back immediately following the restart and Lee Paine presented Edwards with the chance to score his 6th goal in just his 4th game since rejoining with the talented striker duly obliging.
Westfield only had to wait until the 10th minute to grab their fourth goal when the excellent Churchman sent Pethig away and he smashed a powerful effort into the far bottom corner. 4-0.
After 15 minutes Edwards made it five with his second of the game after Young had sent him through once again with a beautiful chipped through ball and Edwards did what he does best and converted the chance. 5-0.
Westfield had to wait until ten minutes into the second half to increase their lead when a Pethig shot was parried to a grateful Bavon Abala who tapped in his first of the season. 6-0.
After that Westfield were content to keep the ball but did fashion a few chances which should have been taken. However it was with four minutes to go that Westfield score the goal of the game when man of the match Edwards played the ball to the edge of the area and the onrushing Alan Johnson struck home an outstanding piledriver which rose all the way into the top corner to seal a hugely impressive result and performance for the Westies.
Next week they host Catsfield who will be looking to avenge their 4-1 home defeat from earlier in the season. ????
