vs Bexhill Rovers First

Home league match

Westfield made amends for last weeks disappointing result with a resounding victory against Bexhill Rovers in the early kick off at the Parish Field.

The Westies started on the front foot with their high press giving Bexhill no way out. Despite creating some decent opportunities it wasn’t until the 44th minute that a swirling Steve Payne strike from 25 yards out was too hot for the Rovers keeper to handle and he palmed the ball into his own net. 1-0 and half time.

Westfield started the second half in lighting fashion and Jordan Yayha was looking particularly lively. They doubled their lead after just 5 minutes of second half play when the energetic Kyle ‘KJ’ Young burst into the box and finished with aplomb from a Josh Pickering pass. 2-0.

It was 3-0 just ten minutes later when another excellent passing move ended with Pickering picking out Payne who’s cleverly struck shot bobbled into the far post.

Bexhill Rovers did reduce the arrears mid way through the second half when a long forward pass caught the Westfield back line out and the onrushing Rovers midfielder struck a delightful 35 yard half volley into the top corner.

But just two minutes later Westfield reestablished their three goal advantage when the impressive Billy Blackford burst forward to cross in from the right hand side and Bobbie ‘Goals’ Burt picked up the loose ball and shifted the ball onto his left foot before firing through a sea of bodies and into the net. 4-1.

Cameron Woodley rounded the scoring off when he headed home from 10 yards out following another Blackford right wing delivery. Bexhill Rovers almost scored an outrageous 40 yard strike with just moments remaining but JJ Blanche somehow clawed it out of the top bin to maintain the score line.

Next week Westfield travel to Catsfield for a tough away fixture against an in form Catsfield team. ????
