Westfield progressed to the next round of the cup after defeating top of the table division one outfit Bexhill AAC 5-2 at the Parish Field.
The first half passed with not many opportunities for either side but Westfield were trying to pass the ball well despite the robust challenges from Bexhill AAC. However the deadlock couldn’t be broken and the half ended goalless.
Just two minutes into the second half the energetic super sub Bavon Abala broke free down the right hand side and his centre was turned home by the returning Jay Edwards on his second debut. 1-0.
It was 2-0 shortly after when Abala again found space in the box following an Alex Mulumba midfield challenge and he found Alan Johnson to score his second goal in two games.
Johnson further extended the lead when he confidently tucked home a penalty just 9 minutes into the second half after Abala had been fouled in the area to make the score 3-0.
The combative Lee Paine doubled his tally for the season mid way through the second half when he headed home another Abala centre to make the score 4-0.
The unbelievable pairing of Billy Blackford and Steve Payne we’re looking comfortable at repelling any AAC attacks but AAC did pull a goal back with 15 left to play after a goal mouth scramble. Debutant Rhys Morfee restored the four goal advantage after he tapped in from a yard following a thunderous Paine half volley that crashed back off the bar.
AAC managed to score a late consolation but it couldn’t take the gloss off an extremely impressive performance from a Westfield team who had made ten changes from their excellent league victory the previous week.
Next week the Westies travel to Sandhurst for a tough away fixture in the league. ????
