A stunning performance by WJFC Tigers today against a physical and difficult Rye Bay.
Rye Bay U15 are currently second in the Ashford league, winning 5 of their 6 games played and drawing the other. So they very nearly had their first defeat of the season today! And near it was.. after going 1 nil down after 7 minutes Jack brought us straight back into it with a cracking strike leaving their keeper with no chance.
Jack firing again a few minutes later left Sam with a pleasing tap in to put us 2 -1 up. Great defensive work from all of our defence with Ben O blocking many attempts and Cameron pushing them back. Ben Bates making some truly stunning blocks and tackles keeping them away until they finally broke through with their second goal after 26minutes.
Amazing tackles by Max, showing us that the back line is where he should be.
Ollie and Noah working hard in midfield with plenty of long balls coming across for Jack and Jake to run on and great foot work from Brad.
With 3-2 to us at half time we decided to keep the formation but with Max off with a tendon injury we were up against it in the second half.
Ed coming on and pushing up the wing with some great ball skills driving us forward but they pressed back with George keeping them at bay with some cracking saves they eventually went 3-3 10 minutes into the second half. Joe making some determined presses, also picked up an injury.
The game looked like going to extra time, but at 76 minutes Ollie took a punt with a full power shot from miles out! It was an on target screamer ! We went 4-3 up and praying for the whistle but in injury time Rye scored again to draw level 4-4 and looking again like extra time we pushed them back with further attempts at their goal from a late corner, but it didn't come...
With further world class power saves from George we couldn't keep them off and at the death they put in another goal winning 5-4.
An amazing performance by the Tigers, the best so far this season. Grit, determination and skill....awesome
Man of the Match is Ben Bates for some amazingly strong tackles, presses and passing. Excellent!
