The game was one to remember for all the wrong reasons. Although it was clear from minute 1 that LG Guardians had only showed up to pick a fight and play mind games in a pathetic attempt to overcome their lack of soccer ability, they were rarely kept in check by one of the worst refereeing performances since the 2009 Chelsea V Barcelona game.
Regardless, the Wanderers saw off a comfortable 6-2 win against the bad boys of the NSSL. Abid got himself on the scoresheet for the first time this season with an early brace in the opening minutes of the game, after which Sourosh taped in a wonderful cross by Reza for the third goal. There was an early casualty in the game however, as Danny had to come off with an unfortunate injury in the first 10 minutes.
Despite many controversial encounters between the players of the two teams, the first half ended 3-0 for the Wanderers. Much more action was to follow in the 2nd half, however.
In the 64th minute, Sina taped in a rebound from Sepehr's shot on goal, proving once again that it is just as important as anything else to be in the right place at the right time. Nima also got himself on the scoresheet for the first time this season, as he took an accurate shot from the edge of the box after receiving the ball from Ryan.
Yet another casualty was to follow in the 71st minute, as Haghi came off with a minor knee injury. Shortly afterwards all hell broke loose, as an LG Guardians player tapped in a ball that clearly came from outside of the field, although the ref waived off the claims due to his subpar vision.
Soon after Sina was shown a yellow card by the ref for dissent in the aftermath of the protests for the unjust goal, and as well as that, the Wanderers coach was told by the ref to "shut up and sit down".
The Wanderers kept on pushing however, and followed the controversial affairs with an extended run and finish from Sepehr, after he picked up the ball from Soroush.
The goalkeeper, Danyal, who did not have much to do for most of the game, showed up with a wonderful save against LG Guardian during a one on one in the 82nd minute. Only a few minutes later, Soroush made a desperate tackle to prevent an opponent player from going one on one against the keeper for a second time, but unfortunately did not get enough of a touch on the ball to avoid a penalty decision. The LG Guardians player put the penalty away, in order to make the score a bit less embarrassing.
In the end, a much better performance from the boys in the 2nd game of the season, and of course, very encouraging to not see any more foul throw from our players.
Upwards and onwards, Wanderers!!
