<p>In a hard-fought game on Saturday, Quiche did themselves no favours in their challenge for the League title with a below-par performance ending in a 2-1 defeat to Ellerslie.
<p>After an evenly-balanced first half, the Quiche turned round with a 2-0 deficit, despite having their fair share of the play, and several chances to score.
<p>A much improved second half effort, with Tom in majestic form dominating the middle of the park, saw almost continuous pressure from the Quiche. The only notable action in the Quiche goalmouth during the whole half was a headed goal-line clearance from Luke. Unfortunately the final touch eluded the team and the only reward was a well-struck penalty conversion from David. Confirmation is awaited from the Guinness Book of Records, but rumour has it that David has not missed a penalty in 27 years.
<p>Man of the Match was Jono1, for his silky skills at the heart of the defence. Other highlights included MP laying an early claim to the trophy for the loudest scream when tackled from behind, and also for successfully avoiding a well-deserved yellow card for a monstrous tackle obviously borrowed from Vlad the Impaler on a bad day.
<p>The Quiche performance was foreshadowed by Maisie pooing on the pitch. With hindsight, this proved to be the Quiche's best movement of the day.
<p>Informed discussion in the bar after the game settled the blame for the defeat firmly on the shoulders of Phil for his lack of commitment.
<p>Next weeks fixture is against the league leaders Eastern Suburbs, with a 2pm kick-off at Bill Mckinlay Park.
